Aisles, Not Isles

June 29th, 2007

“Rise up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it” (Ezra 10:4).

So many days we want to give in and give up! We have such a difficult time believing that God and our loyal friends support us. On the other hand, matters in another’s hands means our support and loyalty and love to that person. We may be just the one to hold up heart and hands of someone in need: “Aaron and Hur held [Moses’] hands up — one on one side, one on the other — so that his hands remained steady…” (Exodus 17:12).

“That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you. If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain…” (Exodus 18:22c); “They will help you carry the burden of the people so that you will not have to carry it alone” (Numbers 11:17c). Pride often says no to help but here God helps us to bear by telling us to share. Often just a listening (h)ear(t) lifts the load off the heart and mind of another.

“Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus…” (Mark 2:4). Here the paralytic’s friends demonstrated the faith that moves a friend through a mountain of difficulties and discouragements. This is the kind of love and support we all need at times, both to give and to receive. This man’s friends had courage and faith to do the unthinkable. We, too, may need to make an opening for someone we love, or perhaps someone we don’t love.

“He went to him and bandaged his wounds…” (Luke 10:34). Perhaps our friend has a heart wound that needs our compassion and heart muscles that need strengthening so he or she can go on with duties. We can bandage and bolster with an unconditional love that understands. We each have our tasks to fulfill, but at times the tasks seem overwhelming; it is then that God grants a gift of a faithful friend who can talk it through with us. Courage and encouragement, operation and cooperation are within this sage advice. God raises up men and women to sustain the burdens for us all, and it is the group’s duty to be with the person in heart and mind. The leader, whether minister, captain, manager, employer — whatever — has the duty to be courageous and to operate on the needs; it is for the rest of us to cooperate and encourage so the person in charge may be successful for us all. We make or break each other.

Father, help us to be aisles, not isles!

7 Simple Steps to Avoid Being a Newbie in Online Games

June 28th, 2007

It doesn’t matter if you are new to online roleplaying games. The road to becoming elite isn’t easily traveled. Some will never reach the top of the hill, but you don’t have to remain a newbie forever.

  • Learn everything there is to learn about your chosen game - Head to google or your favorite search engine and type “mymmorpg tips” or “mymmorpg strategies” (substitute mymmorpg for the mmorpg you are currently playing). Surf the various websites and look for the best characters
to start with, the best way to make money/gain equipment, and the best pvp/pk tactics.
  • As soon as you load the game for the first time, find out all there is to know about the user Interface and the controls.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask people in the general area how to do something in game.
  • Speak to people and create a network of friends - Don’t spend too much time with people who don’t know anything about the game. The best case scenario would be to find an “elite mentor” that can show you all the ropes. Once you have a large enough network of friends, you can join any game you please and have the best of the best as soon as you start.
  • Don’t be afraid to die in player versus player combat or player versus environment- Fear will only halt your progress. Find out if you will drop items or not in your chosen game if you die. If you don’t, make sure you embrace every pvp encounter you can.
  • Make sure you have a fast computer and internet connection- If you truly want to compete, you simply can’t allow your machine to get in the way. If you constantly lag from a slow internet connection or poor hardware, your just asking to be killed. 56k isn’t an option. It’s 2005…
  • Don’t make excuses! - If there is something you don’t know, ask someone. If there is something you are not good at, practice until you master it. Are the controls getting in the way? Customize your controls if you can or buy new hardware that will help(4 button optical mice and various peripherals is a start). Make sure you find out the fastest, most efficient way to make currency in your MMORPG. Making money makes all MMORPGs easier; some more than others.

Using powerleveling services or buying currency is just a shortcut. It’s the equivalent of going to college and paying someone to take all of your classes for you. You may have a degree, but you don’t know anything. Some people may use this to play a game that they don’t have time to play, which is understandable…but don’t expect ANY respect for your actions. Don’t bother trying to claim to be an elite veteran either. It will only make you look ignorant.
In the mean time, keep grinding, keep killing, and do whatever it takes to remove your “newb” status.

Camping on Catalina Island

June 28th, 2007

Preparing for a Catalina Island camping trip requires some careful planning and packing, as you won’t have your car or RV with you.

Since the Santa Catalina Island Conservancy owns most of Catalina, the natural beauty is well preserved, so you are in for a real treat.

There are five campgrounds on the island, not counting the boat-in campsites. Most people arrive by ferry or private boat, so you want to pack enough, but not too much.

A permit is required by all campers, which can be obtained at the Two Harbors Visitor Services or Avalon’s Island Plaza. When arriving at the island, you must check in with them before going to your campground.

For Catalina Island camping reservations, call 310-510-8368. You may also be able to rent camping gear such as tents, sleeping bags and pads. All the campgrounds charge $12 per adult per night and $6 per child. They also all have a 10-day maximum stay limit. Unfortunately for campers who love to bring their dogs along, no pets are allowed.

HERMIT GULCH CAMPGROUND

Located 1 1/2 miles from the boat landing on Avalon Canyon Road, you can hike in or take a taxi from Avalon. It is set on a grassy field with trees, inland near Wrigley Memorial and Botanical Garden.

This campground has 54 tent sites. You’ll find flush toilets, showers, picnic tables, BBQs and a small store. Propane, charcoal, firewood and ice is available for sale from the rangers.

TWO HARBORS CAMPGROUND

This campground is located in Two Harbors on a bluff above the beach. You can either hike 1/4 mile uphill from Two Harbors or take the Safari Bus. There are 43 tent sites and 3 group sites. Several of the sites are sheltered, which is a blessing during the hot summer days. There are chemical toilets, cold showers, a snack bar and a coin laundry. Activities include snorkeling and biking.

LITTLE HARBOR CAMPGROUND

A third campground is the Little Harbor Campground. Located 7 miles east of Two Harbors and 16 miles west of Avalon, you can get there by hiking (for the studly), or take the Safari Bus from Two Harbors or Avalon.

This campground has 17 tent sites, of which 8 are group sites. They have chemical toilets, cold showers, picnic tables, a BBQ and a fire ring. You can snorkel and swim at two sandy beaches.

If you prefer, you can arrange in advance with Visitor Services to have your gear transported from Two Harbors for a fee.

BLACKJACK CAMPGROUND

Another of the campgrounds on Catalina Island is the Blackjack Campground. It is located near Mt. Orizaba, which is the highest peak on the island. It is inland, set amongst the trees. Located 9 miles west of Avalon and 11 1/2 miles east of Two Harbors off Old Stage Road, you can access it by a 1 1/2 mile hike to the campground. To get to the trailhead, hike in or take the Safari Bus or Airport Shuttle from Avalon. You can check in at either Avalon’s Island Plaza or Two Harbors Guest Services.

This campground has 11 primitive tent sites, along with chemical toilets, BBQ, fire ring and picnic tables.

PARSON’S LANDING CAMPGROUND

This campground is found between Land’s End and Arrow Point. Located 7 miles west of Two Harbors, you must hike in or come by kayak to get there.

It has 8 primitive tent sites, chemical toilets, BBQ, fire ring and picnic tables. There is no water so you must bring your own. They may include water and firewood in the fee, so double-check this when you make your reservation. It faces the beach, which is nice, but it is advisable to bring your own shade

BOAT-IN CAMPSITES

A unique way to experience Catalina Island camping is by boat or kayak. There are nine named boat-in camping areas in all, covering a total of 17 campsites.

All are situated around the northeast shore of Avalon. They are primitive sites with no water, toilets or moorings. You must pack out your trash and bring your own portable toilets and water. No fires are allowed. A ranger will check you in and then checks on each site daily. Kayak rentals are available in Avalon. For more information, call 310-510-7265.

If you love to camp by the beach, try getting away from the hustle and bustle and crowds of the mainland by camping on Catalina Island.

Laura Eggers is a beach lover with a website. http://www.southern-california-beaches-vacation-guide.com offers visitors a plethora of information about the different beach areas to help with planning their beach vacation in sunny Southern California.

Election Day Blues

June 28th, 2007

Election day blues are a myth. Those actively involved in
campaigning don’t feel anything on the day of the ballot itself.
Those activists are too het up, too exhausted already from
months of working flat out. They have poured their hearts and
souls into winning and until the very last ballot has been cast,
the very last vote counted and indeed recounted, there is no
time to feel. All they can do until then is act because sitting
around moping doesn’t get you anywhere. You have to work to win.

The day after an election, when the result is certain, a few
inexperienced individuals may mourn. But, for the seasoned
veteran, it is business as usual. The battle may have been lost,
but the war continues. It may, of course, be with a heavier
heart than before, but the joy about defeat in an election is
that there will always be another chance in the future. That is
the beauty of democracy: nothing is terminal unless you live
within a dictatorship and, if you do, you can always start
planning that coup.

If, on the other hand, you are one of the many people sitting at
home disappointed that the result was not the one you desired,
take heart. Come and join the privileged group of campaigners I
talk of and next time, or perhaps the time after that, the
result could be the right one. People often say that their voice
would not make a difference, but if every person thought like
that not one thing would ever get done. Power is won and lost
one vote at a time.

It Is NOT Love That Hurts

June 28th, 2007

If you’ve ever tried to get through to somebody, you probably
understand just how frustrating it can be, and it is even more
frustrating if you are trying to get though to someone you love
and you just can’t seem to get though to them however much you
try.

Every one of us wants to be loved, even those who pretend they
do not need love in their lives. Love connects us to the power,
joy, happiness, inspiration, passion, spontaneity etc that we
all have within us - that is why it feels magical to be in love.
When you stop loving, you weaken your connection to this magic
inside of you. When you stop loving you feel lifeless,
depressed, apathetic, skeptical, negative and hopeless. But
often we think we are doing everything to bring love or more of
it into our lives or relationships but there is a part of us
that we are not often aware of the part of us that tries to
sabotage the love in our life, hides from love or rejects it
altogether.

I have many couples come to my office and looking at them I know
they are in love. When I ask them what they think is the
problem, they almost answer in chorus “we don’t communicate
well”. But then when I ask “Why?”. All different kinds of
answers, accusations and excuses start to come out. I like to
just sit there and let them go at it for a while. Very often
they come back with another chorus answer “we don’t know why we
can’t communicate”.

And I am sure you have come across some of the singles personal
ads that have “stay away from me, I am a freak magnet” written
all over them. These people are sincerely looking for love and
wonder why nobody replies to their ad or even why they can’t
find someone to love them.

Every time you loved and your love was not returned, a wall was
erected around your heart, a wall you erected to protect
yourself from being hurt again the next time. Over time you
became an expert at building walls around your heart and because
these walls have become so much part of you, you probably are
not even aware that you have them.

Read these comments and try to remember if anyone in your life
(lovers, family, co-workers etc) has ever made them about you:

1. When you get angry you shut down and won’t talk to me 2. You
are always jumping to conclusions 3. Talking to you about things
that are important to me is just frustrating 4. When I bring up
the subject, you immediately change it, walk out of the room or
pretend to be asleep 5. You always say “I am not upset” but I
always know when you are upset or angry 6. I can never tell if
you are kidding or serious 7. When I try to talk to you, you
just stare at me as if I am crazy, stupid or something 8. I can
never talk to you, you twist around every word I say 9. I need
you to open up more 10. Why can’t you just shut up for once and
listen 11. Everything I say or do upsets you 12. How did we get
here, I thought we were talking about…

Unfortunately, we can’t keep hiding behind our walls all the
time because a much more powerful part of us wants to be found,
to be loved and to grow into more spiritual consciousness. So we
attract into our lives those people who will perfectly push our
buttons for us, confront us when we’re losing our vision and
integrity, kick our ass when we’re getting lazy or sinking into
destructive patterns, and so on.

Say you are out on a date having a wonderful time with someone
you like or care about. The conversation drifts to music. You
say you love rock and roll, rap or country music and your date
says he or she is not all too crazy about it or makes a comment
that criticizes that particular kind of music. You start to feel
a tightening in your belly and somehow you like the person a
little less than before they said they did not enjoy your
particular taste of music. You feel as if the person has
criticized you or done something to hurt you. You emotionally
pull away. A few days or few weeks later, the relationship ends.
You conclude that the problem is with the other person and so
you go from relationship to relationship hoping to find somebody
who will love you for who you are. Or you conclude that love
hurts and resolve to live peacefully alone. Or worse still - you
conclude that love hurts and stay in a relationship that is
unfulfilling.

A lot of books and advice on intimate relationships tell couples
that in order to stay in love they should practice certain
words, activities or behaviours. But as many are finding out,
love is more than giving the appearance of love. Over time the
relationship stagnates. Couples become bored. Deep feelings of
resentment and anger accumulate. Both couples feel the other
person let them down because they weren’t fulfilled. And a
relationship with great potential ends up in divorce despite all
the communication advice and/or counselling.

No one plans to fall out of love, but it happens, and when it
does, it hurts. When you are operating from a place of old
defensive reactions, fears and insecurities you will react to
experiences such as these as “mistakes” and the people who push
your buttons as “bad” and will shut down to the possibility of
love. But when you are operating from a place of conscious
intent, thought, talk and action, you will see these experiences
as opportunities to examine why you react the way you react to
people and situations. You will have the insight to see the
other person’s contribution to the expansion and evolving of
your life.

It’s not love that hurts - it is when you keep repeating your
patterns and being reminded that you need to learn something
about your emotional and mental programming that hurts. And
because you’ve mentally imprisoned and emotionally isolated
yourself from yourself and from others, other people will find
it really hard to get through to you.

How many walls do you have built around your heart? Do your
walls have labels on the doors like “there are no good men”,
“all men are cheats” “all women are manipulative”, “the women I
am attracted to can never be attracted to me”, “it is impossible
to find love”, “everyone is trying to get something off me and
yet give nothing back”, “life sucks” “love hurts” etc. “How does
it feel hiding behind those walls? Does part of you wish you
knew how to come out and not get hurt again? Are there people in
your life who are trying to love you but you are pushing them
away?

Many of us have spent so many years behind our walls that it
seems easier to stay shut down than risk to open up. Each time
we fall in love or meet a wonderful man or woman, we feel
excited but underneath that excitement is a deep concern and
even fear. Will this relationship also end up the same way? Will
I be hurt again? What will I do? Will I survive the pain this
time?

When it comes to love, it all comes down up to you. You have the
freedom to chose whether or not you want a relationship and you
have the freedom to chose how that relationship with be. You
can’t blame your parents, your childhood or society for your
inability to have successful relationships because you are the
only one who has the power to do something to change who you
attract, how you date and love, and how loving, exciting,
intimate and committed your relationship can be. Love is up to
you!

Unfortunately, when you don’t know how to consciously reprogram
the patterns in your relationships and create the results you
want, you end up making the same mistake over and over again.

There is good news and bad news. The good news is that you can
set yourself free from the past, not only the long ago past but
the hurts even as recent as yesterday, and let yourself progress
unburdened into love and a fulfilling relationship.

The bad news is that the old defensive reactions, fears and
insecurities you have within you will prevent you from taking
the necessary steps to free yourself. What if it doesn’t work?
What if this is just another ploy to coax you from behind your
walls only to be deceived again?

It is perfectly normal for you to think this way and it is not
because something is wrong with you - it is just the way it is.

It is all up to you!

Perfect Prints

June 28th, 2007

There are many ways to share your landscape photos with digital photography, but photo prints remain the most popular. Prints can be framed and hung up on the wall to show your photos off to friends and family. Creating the perfect print can become even more challenging if your monitor isn’t calibrated properly. You will have suddenly wasted your time, paper and ink on a print which doesn’t match what you see on your monitor. Read these quick tips for getting the best prints possible.

Dpi and Ppi

When you make a print of one of your photos on an inkjet printer, a lot is happening inside the printer. Inkjet printers work by spraying ink dots of cyan, magenta, yellow and black from nozzles while they pass over the paper. Most inkjet printers have a print resolution of 1440dpi and some printers go as high as 5760dpi. In general, the higher the resolution of your printer the greater detail you can print and the better your photo will look.

The single biggest point of confusion comes from Dots per inch and Pixels per inch. Dpi is very different from ppi, which is the resolution of an image on your computer screen. Printers create dozens of tiny dots to fill the space of one pixel, and the more pixels you pack in an inch the finer the detail will look.
The ideal resolution for printing an image is 300 to 400dpi/ppi.

Ink and Paper

You have a lot of options when choosing different quality inks and paper types, all of which can be combined to form a satisfying result. Different photo papers will give surprisingly different results from the same photo printed on the same printer. Photo paper comes in many different styles, weights, and photo finishes, including matte, glossy and varying degrees of gloss, which is usually called semi-gloss. Colour photos usually look best when printed onto glossy or semi-gloss photo paper, while black and white photos usually look better on matte. It is also worth while creating and saving different profiles for your printer for each type of photo paper you use. This is because on some papers a printer may use too much of one colour, instead of correcting the colour yourself you can select a profile you created before.

The cost of ink can sometimes be greater than that of paper. Purchasing brand name inks by your printer manufacturer is usually the safest option and will produce the best results. Remember that printer damage caused by third party printer cartridges sometimes isn’t covered by manufacturers. Some companies such as Lyson produce high end inks which in some cases are better than the manufacturers own.

Archival qualities and resistance to colour fading is also important when choosing inks. For example pigment based inks help guarantee that your prints will remain crisp and vibrant for many years.

If you are going to print a large quantity of photos it is also worth checking the prices of online printing stores to see if they are a better option for you.

Monitor and Printer Calibration

Calibrating your monitor and printer is essential when viewing and printing your photos. Your monitor could be displaying inaccurate colours and density. Adobe Photoshop comes with something called Adobe Gamma which will most likely already be installed on your computer. You can use Adobe Gamma to create an ICC profile which uses calibration settings to change the way your monitor reproduces colours. Start Adobe Gamma, located in Control Panel and then select step by step and follow the instructions. Daylight can affect the accuracy of colours displayed on your monitor, this is why its best to carry out your monitor calibration in a darkened room.

The first and most important step in printer calibration is to use the correct driver for your printer. Every printer driver comes with its own calibration controls and tools, designed for fine tuning the overall colour of your prints. You can visual calibrate your printer using test images with a wide range of tonal values, including colours bars, photographs, and blocks of colours. You can then adjust the colours using your printer’s controls to match on screen with what you have in print. Alternatively ICC profiles provide a way to insure consistent colour reproduction. Every printer comes with default profiles for use with different combinations of inks and paper which may be suitable for your needs.

Accepting Credit Cards on your Website

June 27th, 2007

If you are building an online shop, you will need to address the question of taking payments for orders. You can, of course, request that a check payment be sent to you in the mail. Most shopping basket software allows you to select this option when you are setting it up. If you already have an offline, bricks and mortar business, you may simply wish to accept credit card payments over the phone.

However, there are some basic problems with these solutions and it all comes down to the way people shop on the internet. Customers expect to be able to add items to their basket and proceed to the checkout to pay. If they then find they must telephone you or print out and send their order, they may simply abandon their order and hop over to another website. Shopping online is all about convenience and if you are unable to provide this, you may be losing customers without even being aware of it.

So, what are your options and what is it all going to cost? Well, the good news is you can do it all very simply and cheaply. Paypal does not have a set-up charge and is a large and trusted online payment processor servicing 78 million accounts worldwide in 56 countries. Your only cost is a small percentage on each sale; a transaction charge. Payments from your website go straight into your Paypal account from where you can transfer amounts to your bank account with the click of a button.

Once you sign up with a payment processor, you can either link to their secure server from your shopping basket facility or build ‘add to basket’ buttons via a simple web query form. The html generated is then pasted next to items on your web page and your customers will be transferred to a secure server when they go to checkout.

Traditional merchant accounts are normally set up through your own bank and will become integral to your business account. Having your own merchant account gives you the choice of many different online payment gateways. Most, however, do charge a set-up fee, monthly fee and transaction charge. Just as you would offline, do make sure you research any company you sign up with on the internet. Print out and read their terms and conditions. Take particular notice of where they are operating from, their fees, when and how you will receive your money into your account.

Another point to consider is the question of chargebacks. This happens when a buyer requests a refund of an amount already paid to you. Reasons include not receiving goods ordered or items arriving faulty, damaged or not as described. Sometimes requests are made if the buyers card was used fraudulently.

If the chargeback request is successful, your merchant payment processor will charge you a processing fee. However, some companies will now provide you with insurance against chargebacks inclusive in your monthly fee. It’s certainly worth shopping around for the right solution for you but knowing you have done your research will give you some peace of mind.

Relaxing Into Reiki - Part 2

June 27th, 2007

FUTURE OR PAST EVENT

Reiki distance healing energy can be sent to a past or future event. A childhood trauma can be relieved of its grip on a suffering adult. An important exam or presentation can be performed with a commanding calmness. A Reiki II trained police officer can send Reiki into a home where a disturbed individual is about to harm themselves or others. Reiki sent to hospice patients could reduce the pain and anxiety of those about to expire. Peace would replace fear. One preparing for surgery could experience less pain, lose less blood, and have a faster recovery. I choose the word “could” because the use of the energy is determined by the recipient’s soul. The only guarantee is that the Reiki energy is going to the highest good…it is always does.

SITUATIONS & CORPORATIONS

Situations can often benefit from Reiki energy. The Reiki energy gently works to produce harmony and clarity where anxiety and discord had prevailed. Both the home and workplace are excellent targets of Reiki energy. Relationships that are “stuck” are moved toward the highest good of all. The end results could be resolution or dissolution. All parties will have the opportunity to move toward their higher good. Corporate teams across the country have been utilizing Reiki as a gentle catalyst toward harmony and greater productivity. Dysfunctional teams have moved toward harmony and trust while corporations reap the benefits. Homes and workplaces that just didn’t “feel good” have been cleared of negative residual energies using Reiki’s infinite power.

EMOTIONAL PARALYSIS

Emotional paralysis resulting from an unexpected loss, event or confrontation responds quickly to hands-on or remotely sent Reiki energy. The individual will experience a calmness and clarity that will help them make rational decisions as to their course of action. Thus far, a majority of my Reiki distance energy treatments are to individuals who have lost their ability to function due to an emotional upset. Hurts inflicted by loved ones rank high on the list for producing an emotional paralysis. The individual is so gripped with emotion that they cannot even secure medical or psychological assistance. I am still in awe as to the power of Reiki to bring peace to where there was once chaos.

REIKI DISTANCE TREATMENTS - SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE

The beauty of Reiki distance healing is it’s practicality and it’s power. As a trained scientist, I can understand the need to have more than anecdotal evidence. Only after I experienced the power of Reiki first hand did I truly believe in its authentic power.

For those of you who would like to seek out some data, I can direct you to some scientific evidence. Distance Reiki is energy directed like a powerful prayer. By “prayer” I am speaking of directing your energy rather than asking for divine favors. Dr. Larry Dossey has documented scientific studies on the power of prayer. Before Dr. Dossey’s early book, “Healing Words” was published in 1993, only three U.S. medical schools had courses exploring the role of prayer in health. Currently, nearly fifty medical schools offer such courses. The majority of them use Dr. Dossey’s books as the textbooks for the courses. References are made to controlled double-blind experiments with unknowing groups of human patients. The results affirm the undeniable power of prayer.

A second set of experiments that can be researched are those conducted by Bruce and John Klingbeil, the founders of Spindrift. Their experiments on prayer utilized simple organisms instead of humans. The choice of less complex subjects reduced the variables inherent in human studies. As expected, prayer significantly affected the germination of seeds as well as vitality of various lower organisms such as yeast and molds.

As a certified and experienced Reiki Master/Teacher, I view the acceptance of Reiki energy as both preventative and healing intervention. The amount of time and sessions required varies from individual to individual. I have observed that major life changes and physical healings may take some time. It took a bit of time to create the illnesses or situations, thus patience and trust is helpful. On occasion, illnesses that are being forced from the body actually get worse before they get better. This is when it is so very important to continue with the treatments. As your body is working to rid itself of toxins, it is extremely important to drink large quantities of water and continue with prescribed medical/psychological medications and recommendations. Reiki should not be used as a substitute for medical care. It should be used as a compliment to professional medical/psychological care, medications and recommendations.

Free Casino Gaming Offers All the Thrills of Las Vegas

June 27th, 2007

Are you one of those people who think it’s impossible to find a free casino? Do you think free casino gaming is just a myth? Have you heard rumors of their existence, but have yet to find one? Well if you have a computer with online access, you can play at a free casino.

The free casino gaming sights have gained momentum in popularity. There are many free casino sights available. All you have to do is go online and pick which website you want to play at. Many websites boast having realistic Las Vegas themed games with sound and beautiful graphics. You do have to make sure your computer can support the downloads for these games, however. Most up to date computers can do so.

The free casino websites offer various games. These include: poker, Texas hold’em, video slot machines, blackjack, keno, craps, roulette, pai gow, let it ride, and many others. Some free casino sights even offer less traditional games that are not found at casinos, such as: bingo and blackout bingo. Many of these free casino websites also have multiplayer games and free chat rooms. This dramatically increases the gaming experience and it makes it more fun to chat with other players. You can even share tips and tricks with each other.

Most free casino websites are just for fun. But many free casino websites also offer free contests and raffles. Some also have points that you gain while you play or win a game. These points can be redeemed for prizes or for contest entries. The odds of winning vary on the amount of people in the raffle. The prizes offered are generally pretty good. All of this is offered absolutely free to you.

Be aware that there are some free casino websites that aren’t exactly free. These so called free casino websites require you to make a deposit by credit card in order to play. They then match your deposit with free money to gamble with in addition to the money you just deposited. The decision to use one of these casinos is entirely up to you. Be aware that you have to enter you credit card information on the website so be sure that they guarantee a safe and secure transaction.

Are iPods Changing the Way We Listen to Music

June 27th, 2007

They’re everywhere, and not only are they everywhere, they look cool too. Since its launch in 2001, 10 million have sold and 8 million of those were in 2004. So welcome to the next generation. 8 tracks, records, cassettes, CDs, and now the iPod.

I don’t have one, yet. My first taste of it came when my girlfriend got one, and asked if I would set it up for her using my computer. Wearing those now immediately recognizable hip cream coloured headphones, I could feel the eyes of every have-not-an-iPod on me with curiosity and maybe a little jealousy. I even started walking differently. Listening to Led Zeppelin, then Radiohead, and then some Bob Marley on my way to school, there was definitely more spring in my step, and I sat through class in a much better mood than usual. For a mere two days it was in my possession and immediately I could feel myself being sucked into its cult.

And why wouldn’t you? An iPod lets you put 10,000 songs inside something the size of a pack of cigarettes. Gone are the heavy, fragile CD cases and the Discman that skips after each step.

Is the iPod changing the way we listen to music? Undeniably. With an iPod, we can take our music anywhere, and not just one album like we could with the walkman. Now we can carry our entire collections everywhere we go. It can play mixes at parties. You can bring it on the commute to work or for a jog. You can save Microsoft Word documents on it and photos for that matter. Don’t like a particular song on an album? Delete it. Thanks to the iPod, music has become an even bigger part of our lives because now it’s just a click away, and it’s exactly how we want it.

Apart from the possibility of our entire collections being with us at all times, the iPod’s capabilities have done something even better. By being able to store over 700 albums, the iPod is encouraging us to try types of music we might not have listened to before. When burning a CD to an iPod takes a short few minutes, what’s there to lose?

But is it all just a trend? Doubtful, especially with people spending on average 100 pounds on iPod accessories. It’s difficult to picture something people now say they can’t live without vanishing, unless Apple CEO Steve Jobs finds another way to outdo himself yet again. And on that note now Apple has come out with the smaller, cheaper version of the iPod called the iPod shuffle. Will it have the same impact as its predecessor? Only time will tell.
