118118 - Directory Enquiry Service in Britain

October 31st, 2007

118118 is a UK provider of directory enquiries services, allowing folk to unearth phone numbers as well as additional valuable information.

118118 have ‘The Number UK Ltd’ to provide directory enquiry numbers - they are a subsidiary of States based Firm InfoNXX - the very biggest independent directory enquiry provider worldwide.

Directory enquiries was once invoked by ringing 192 (United Kingdom), still, the market was deregulated in 2002 and in August 2003 192 closed down.

On top of offering a directory enquiry system, 118118 also offer a service where one can ask 118118’s staff about anything, e.g., ‘What is the highest construction in Abkhazia’ and 118118 can then supply the answer, by mobile phone, or even via a text message (frightfully convenient when you’re doing a pub quiz!)

118118 unveiled various notable ad campaigns in the past few years, making both men with droopy moustaches, famous for promoting 118’s resource. The blokes have have appeared in a number of goofy circumstances, such as a caricature of ‘The A-team’. They are, now, an exceedingly important factor of the 118 118 brand across Great Britain, and are unmistakably recognizable.

Book Review: The Bottomless Well - Why We Will Never Run Out of Energy

October 31st, 2007

For anyone who has any interest in energy, its cost, future and the political debate over this precious resource- The Bottomless Well is a must read. This book is an intriguing insight to the other side of what most of us have been led to believe on the environmentalist monopoly of the subject. The Bottomless Well makes the case that most of the things we think we know are mostly myths- because we really don’t understand what the essence of energy is in the first place. The book demonstrates how a better understanding of energy will radically change our views and policies on a number of very controversial issues. The Bottomless Well also explains why demand for energy will only continue to increase, why most of what we believe is “energy waste” actually proves out to be a benefit for all; why more efficient vehicles, engines, and light bulbs will never lower demand, and why the earth’s energy supply is actually infinite.

The Bottomless Well goes on to point out that that the cost of energy has increasingly less and less to do with the actual cost of fuel. With roughly five percent of the world’s population, America consumes over 25 percent of the world’s natural gas, 43 percent of its motor gasoline, 25 percent of its crude petroleum, 23 percent of its coal, and 26 percent of its total electricity production. But the book points out that most our energy consumption isn’t for locomotion, lighting, or cooling. What we use energy for, mainly, is to extract, refine, process, and purify energy into ever higher states of efficiency. The more efficient our technology, the more energy we actually consume; not save, because the cost to reward ratio is so positive for the consumers of this highly refined energy. The book also point out that the competitive advantage in manufacturing will soon be shifting decisively back toward the U.S.: the human demand for energy will only continue to grow and is indeed insatiable; raw fuels sources are not running out; and America’s relentless pursuit of high-grade energy does not add chaos to the global environment but rather restores it to order. Indeed, expanding energy supplies mean higher productivity, more jobs, and a growing GDP. Across the board- energy isn’t the problem, energy is the solution.

While the conventional wisdom holds that energy consumption is the problem and certainly some would disagree from an environmental impact concerning (at lest fossil fuel) energy consumption, The Bottomless Well argues that from an environmental perspective it also makes sense to use energy in an ever more efficient state. For example America, unlike most of the poor developing countries, is a net carbon sink. That is, despite all the pollution produced in America, there is more CO2 PPM upwind of America on the Pacific side then there is downstream of it over the Atlantic. This fact is undisputed, but although the book does offer some anecdotal reasons why this might be the case there is no definitive evidence to explain this unexpected phenomenon.

I would strongly recommend The Bottomless Well to anyone, no matter where they might stand on the issues of energy, the environment or politics. The book breaks the mold on many of our conventional views of energy, how we use it and why. At very least The Bottomless Well opens the door to another school of thought, not to mention a healthy debate about energy policy and our future.

John is the founder of several successful Internet technology companies including the Book Price Comparison website CompareBook.com. As a pragmatist of the world around him, he is both a critic and crusader on international politics and energy policy as it relates to our security and our impact on the global environment.

Master Affiliate Marketing - 7 Ways To Take Your Earnings To The Next Level

October 31st, 2007

It’s a fact that affiliate marketing is one of the quickest ways to get a web business up and running. After all, you don’t need a website, you don’t need a list and you can start advertising someone else’s product just 5 minutes from now.

And the great thing is you really can make money by doing it. But the truth is, if you are making money from a particular product you’re promoting in this fashion, you’re almost certainly leaving money on the table.

To explain why, we need to look at your average affiliate marketing strategy:

– Pick a product to promote with a high affiliate payout ($50 or more)

– Set up a pay-per-click campaign to promote your affiliate link

That’s it! Those two steps are what the vast majority of affiliate marketers do. And that’s why 95% of all affiliate payouts are made to just 5% of the people doing the marketing… because those top 5% are doing far more to earn their commissions than just a simple PPC campaign.

You need to understand that if you’re fortunate enough to be making money from the product you’re promoting just by doing those 2 basic steps, then it’s almost a racing certainty that you’re missing out on a mass of additional income.

Let’s look at how you could increase your commissions and future related sales on just one product you’re already making money from:

1. Build a ‘name squeeze’ page to capture your prospect’s name and email address. It’s a fact that virtually all product sales are made after the customer’s fifth visit to the website.

If you’re not capturing your prospect’s details, how are you going to make sure they go back to the sales page using your affiliate link? To greatly improve the chances of this you can set up a 7-series autoresponder to automatically send your lead additional information and reminders about the product they’re interested in. This approach will keep the product fresh in their mind.

2. Build a website reviewing the product you’re promoting, including a newsletter to catch your prospect’s details. You can give full details about how the product will solve your prospect’s problems, giving an impartial review of the features and benefits with some real-life results.

The newsletter will allow you to keep in touch with your prospects in the same way as the name squeeze page method.

3. Offer additional bonuses for buying through your affiliate link. This gives your prospect a reason to buy from you, especially if they know you’re going to make a commission from the sale.

The important thing here is that your bonus products are related to the product you’re selling. I mean, there’s no point advertising a bonus book on ‘how to make your parrot talk’ if your initial product is about training dogs to perform tricks.

4. Create video tutorials on how to use the product you’re promoting. This works especially well when you’re promoting a software product. You can show people how to get started as quickly as possible without them having to read the manual.

The vast majority of people learn visually, so they’re much more likely to use your videos than read the manual supplied with the software. You can even tie this in with option 3; give your prospect free training videos if they buy through your affiliate link.

5. Make your own product to cross-promote. It can be an add-on to the product you’re promoting as an affiliate. Again, you could easily offer it for free or at a discounted price if they buy through your affiliate link.

6. Promote related products via email. This works by creating an ‘A ‘ Grade list out of your newsletter and squeeze page sign-ups, i.e. the people who have actually gone on to buy the product you’re promoting.

It’s a known fact that people who have a proven track record of buying online are more likely to buy from you again. You can easily recommend to them a related product that will further enhance their original purchase, resulting in more affiliate commissions for you.

7. Tie all of the above together. You don’t have to use just one of the methods above. Use all of them.

Create a name squeeze page, build a review website with newsletter, add some bonuses to your affiliate link, make some video tutorials, develop your own related product and promote other affiliate products via email to the lists you’ve built with your name squeeze page and newsletter.

But before you do any of this, make sure you’re promoting a product that sells. After all, spending your time doing all of the above for a product that is poorly supported, doesn’t work properly or has a high refund rate is going to be time wasted.

DirecTV and DISH Network – How Do The Two Leading Satellite TV Providers Stack Up?

October 31st, 2007

If you live in the U.S. and want satellite TV systems, you have basically two choices. Yes, there are other providers out there, but for most viewers, DirecTV and DISH Network offer the most choices for the least money, although Pegasus and Voom are fast becoming major contenders in the satellite television industry. Competition being what it is, both DirecTV and DISH Network offer similar services and constantly adjust to add features and outdo their rivals. So how do you choose between the two? A side-by-side comparison of the services and prices shows some differences that help customers decide which service best fits their viewing needs. But first, a little background on each provider might be helpful.

DirecTV

The company known as The DirecTV Group is made up of four main units, which include DirecTV U.S., DirecTV Latin America, PanAmSat, and Hughes Network Systems (HNS). As a group, the organization serves over 12 million U.S. satellite TV customers and another 1.5 million subscribers in Latin countries. Through PanAmSat, they operate a fleet of 25 satellites capable of providing satellite transmissions to 98% of the world. And Hughes Network Systems operates a satellite-based consumer broadband Internet access service known as DirecWay. This component of Hughes has over 180,000 subscribers. HNS is also one of the largest manufacturers of DirecTV set-top receivers. The four different aspects of The DirecTV Group give the company a large, comprehensive base of direct and indirect satellite customers. Their partnerships with technology leaders such as AOL, Microsoft, and TiVo also add to their customer base.

There are plans for improving and expanding services in efforts to attract more customers. Hughes Network Services is developing SPACEWAY, a more advanced satellite broadband communications package that is expected to provide customers with more affordable high-speed, two-way data communications. SPACEWAY is expected to be introduced in 2005.

DirecTV has been actively working to increase the number of markets where they offer local programming. In January of this year, the company added 18 new markets that will receive local channels via the DirecTV(R) programming service. By year-end, the company plans to offer local channels in a minimum of 130 markets, representing 92% of U.S. television households. Continued marketing and development of their HDTV and DVR products will also be a part of their plans to expand their customer base. Two different basic dish designs and several different manufacturers provide DirecTV consumers with a number of dish options.

DirecTV subscribers have a choice of two basic dish designs for their satellite service. The round dish is the more common 18″ design that has been popular across the country. The oval dish or low noise blockdown (LNB) dish is able to receive information from more than one satellite and is required for those who want to receive local channels, HDTV, or Spanish language programming.

Popular manufacturers of DirecTV compatible dishes include Hughes, Sony, Phillips, and RCA. Current DirecTV sales and deals offer the satellite dish and other equipment for free with a one-year commitment. It could cost anywhere from $50 to over $200 to purchase the DirecTV compatible dish separately.

DISH Network

EchoStar Communications Corporation and their DISH Network service are Hughes Network’s top competitors. Headquartered in Englewood Colorado, EchoStar has been a leader in the satellite TV industry for over 20 years. The company, founded by Charlie Ergen, began as a distributor of C-band cable television systems and filed for a Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) license in 1987. The company received broadcast access in 1992, launched its own satellite, EchoStar I, in 1995, and introduced DISH Network in 1996.

Today, the company has 9 satellites, and through DISH Network, provides over 500 channels of video, audio, and data satellite services to over 8.5 million customers in the U.S. In addition to satellite television services, DISH Network customers can also receive high speed Internet, Interactive TV (on demand programming), and High Definition TV (HDTV).

HDTV is EchoStar’s latest innovation, which reportedly delivers extraordinarily sharp pictures and integrated sound by digitizing television programming. Broadcasting all DISH Network programming in wide-screen format and transmitting up to 10 percent more pixels, HDTV provides a clearer more proportionate picture.

In August of 2003, EchoStar was the first company to offer a satellite receiver with a built-in digital video recorder (DVR). A DISH Network standard DVR receiver allows viewers to stop, rewind, fast forward and record up to 60 hours of live TV programming. More advanced receivers provide enhanced services.

DISH Network services can be purchased on-line or through a local retailer. Unlike its competitor, DirecTV, DISH Network offers equipment installation. This service usually involves a fee, but often is offered at free or reduced rates through special sales promotions.

The equipment needed for DISH Network satellite TV is basically the same as for DirecTV service. You need a dish, a satellite receiver, and the access cards. Depending on the type of satellite TV you want, you have several choices for equipment. Whether you want standard satellite TV or Digital Video Recording (DVR), or High Definition (HD) options, you will need a dish. Each type of service requires a different dish, but that is determined for you when you choose your package.

A Comparison

So how do the two leading satellite television services compare? Both offer over 200 channels and Pay Per View selections, DVD recorders, HDTV and seven HD channels each. But from there, things differ somewhat. Compare the different packages and the services provided. Look them over and decide which satellite TV service is best for your budget and viewing needs.

How Mnemonic Strategies Can Improve Your Child’s Memory Skills In One Evening

October 31st, 2007

What’s one of the things all successful students have in common? The can memorize easily. They remember the facts and details of battles in history, the formulas in math and the unending list of elements in science.

So what can you do to help your child develop memory strategies that can instantly help them be more successful in school?

The answer…mnemonic memorizing techniques!

They’re fun, simple and incredibly effective. And in one evening you can show your child how to apply them to any vocabulary list, series of facts and figures, or just plain remembering what to do after coming home from school.

Who uses mnemonics?

According to Dr. Joel Levin, Educational Psychologist at the University of Arizona, ” Many folks - motivated students included - use memory enhancing techniques, especially when there’s a ‘memory payoff,’ such as obtaining higher academic grades or admission to some elite professional school or graduate program.”

To put it simply, mnemonics are memory aids that help make a connection between what you already know and what you need to remember. You probably use mnemonics in your daily life and don’t even know it. (Does “I before E except after C” ring a bell?).

How about the order of the planets? (My very educated mother just served us nine pizzas - look at the first letter of each word in that sentence and you’ll have the names of the planets, in their correct order).

All you need to do is follow one of the three memory strategies I’ll list here and you can help your child create funny (goofy is ok, too) and effective mnemonics starting tonight.

First method: Acronyms.

Take the first letter of the series of words you need to memorize and make a word out of them. The more famous acronyms we have are SCUBA (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus), NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), and AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).

Ask your son or daughter if there’s a list of vocabulary, facts or figures they need to learn for tomorrow or the next day and see if you can help them come up with an acronym.

Second method: Acrostics

Take the first letter of a series of words you need to learn and create a sentence. In my Spanish classes, we have many acrostics (it’s easier to just call them mnemonics). One in particular is for “-GO” verbs in the present tense (Harry Potter Teaches Cool Students - Hacer, Poner, Traer, Caer, Salir).

I also remember an acrostic from an 8th grade math class: Old Houses Are Houses Of Age - (Sine) - Opposite/Hypotenuse, (Cosine) - Adjacent/Hypotenuse, (Tangent) - Opposite/Adjacent). Other friends of mine from different schools learned the mnemonic SOACAHTOA.

Third method: Keyword

Take the word you want to learn, find a similar sounding word (or similar spelling) and come up with a sentence that includes the keyword and the meaning you’re trying to remember.

This approach works beautifully in my Spanish classes. Let’s say your child wants to learn the verb “Dormir” (to sleep). You decide on a keyword (we’ll use dorm) and then you create a sentence. My class came up with “Norm sleeps in the dorm.”

When you add an illustration to this sentence, it helps your child remember even more quickly, and retain it longer.

Why aren’t mnemonics used more often in schools? That’s a good question. Levin, who’s studied mnemonics for over 25 years and understands their effectiveness better than most, considers it “a mystery.”

Anyone of these mnemonic techniques will work depending on the material. It all comes down to finding the best one for your son or daughter.

And they can be learned (and applied) in one night. That means your child can improve their memory skills from one day to the next.

Jim Sarris has been teaching Spanish for 15 years. He’s used mnemoncs with great success in his high school classess as well as at night with adults.

A Bad Lifestyle Won’t Kill You, Today

October 31st, 2007

Old marketing principle: Cure sells. Prevention doesn’t.

In other words … if you had cancer, you’d move heaven and earth to get rid of it, to cure yourself. But if you don’t have cancer, most people wouldn’t walk across the street to prevent it.

The thing is, if you violate The Basics, you will almost certainly die well before your time. Or worse - you’ll enjoy many years of awful health, then die early.

“Enjoy?”

Yes. That word is in there for a reason. Let’s start with those Basics:

1. Eat right so you’re getting the nutrients your body requires. This includes 6-8 servings of fruits & veggies a day. Failing that, you MUST supplement!

2. Keep your toxic intake to a minimum.

3. Drink 8 glasses of water a day. Your immune system requires plenty of fluid for nutrient transport & absorption, and to move the toxins out of your body.

4. Get a good night’s sleep every night. Your body needs its “shut-down” time.

Eating a meal of saturated fat junk food won’t kill you today. But plenty of people “enjoy” it to death.

If you do it week after week, month after month, year after year, you clog your arteries & over-stress your heart. Eventually, your heart quits. And no amount of statin drugs are going to change that.

I’ve been reading a book titled “The Slight Edge,” by Jeff Olson. Here’s a cut from page 33 that is really important to all of us:

“It’s not the one junk-food meal; it’s the thousands, over time. Eating the burger is just a simple error in judgment. Not eating it, a simple positive action. Eating it won’t kill you - today. But compounded over time, it can and will. Not eating it won’t save you - today. But compounded over time, it can and will.”

“A simple, positive action. A simple error in judgment. Either way, it’s the Slight Edge at work - working for you or working against you.”

Heart disease is mostly very preventable … if you’re willing to walk across the street.

I appreciate you!

It doesn’t matter if you use your computer at home or at work. If anyone has access to your computer they can install one of these devices without knowing a thing about computers.

If you want to see pictures and read up on this type of product, here is the URL for probably the most well known hardware Key Logger on the Internet:

Once installed, a hardware Key Logger will capture every keystroke entered into your keyboard and then store it for future retrieval on the device itself.

Some hardware Key Logger companies boast a two-million keystroke capacity!

That’s about 5 years worth of typing for the average computer user.

Whether at home or in the office, you can easily fall victim to this type of spying. A hardware Key Logger is installed between your keyboard and computer.

Removal of Hardware Key Loggers:

There are no anti spyware tools available for this except you’re own two eyeballs. By taking a peek behind your system and following your keyboard cable, you can find out if there is something “odd” inserted between your keyboard and computer.

To remove a hardware Key Logger, you must shut down your system! You could cause damage your system if you attempt to remove the Key Logger while your computer is running!

Once your system is powered off, carefully remove the Key Logger from in between your keyboard and computer, and then plug your keyboard directly back into the computer. Make sure that it is plugged in completely and be gentle as the connectors are somewhat fragile.

It is very important to become an anti spyware enthusiast and check any computer you sit down at for hardware key loggers

Spyware:

Most everyone has heard of the term spyware.

Unfortunately the majority of people don’t really understand what spyware does and what kind of anti spyware tool is best for them.

Spyware itself is broken down into two categories.

Adware vs Spy Software

Adware:

Adware (Advertising Spyware) is the most prevalent form of spyware. It monitors Internet activity to send targeted advertising to you as a consumer, or simply monitor your surfing habits to gather intelligence for companies who want to know what your interests are.

Adware is generally not a security threat, but can really mess up your computer when you try to remove it. Adware removal could cost you hundreds of dollars in repair bills even using the best anti spyware tools available.

Adware is written by “coders” who don’t care what happens to your computer should you try to uninstall their software using an anti spyware tool.

Their only concern is making money from the information they acquire from your computer use.

Adware infections often cause many to make a trip to the computer repair shop just to get their computer back into running condition.

Adware can get on your computer in a variety of ways. You may download free programs, a screensaver, or some music or video, and the adware tags right along with your download file.

File sharing on peer to peer networks has been one of the worst culprits out there causing the serious spread of spyware worldwide.

Adware Symptoms:

The symptoms of Adware are uncontrollable popups, unwanted extra toolbars, and drastically slowed down computer performance that can result in freezes or lock up. When this happens it’s time to get out your favorite anti spyware tool.

Tip: Music or File Sharing Can Be Dangerous: Never download ANYTHING from a website you do not trust, or can’t verify, that they are a legitimate download site. Many times spyware can be attached to the music or file sharing programs themselves!

Adware Removal Using Anti-Spyware Tools:

You don’t have to purchase an anti spyware tool for adware removal. I’m going to show you how to deal with an adware problem for free.

Unfortunately there are many anti spyware companies trying to profit from the spyware problem, so some of the anti spyware tools on the market today are very inferior “slapped together” products.

Some of these anti spyware companies do as much damage to a computer as the adware does. Many times all they want you to do is give them money. After all, how can you really know if they have done the job or not?

Some sneaky adware companies have even joined up with anti-spyware software companies and created a spyware removal utility that actually puts spyware on your system!

It’s unbelievable what some people will do for a buck.

The only anti spyware tool you need to use if you have adware on your system is SpyBot, which comes highly recommended by security experts.

And it won’t cost you a penny!

SpyBot is FREE

SpyBot anti spyware will do everything the paid ones do and then some.

If you like SpyBot anti spyware you can donate money to the author, but only if you want to.

Spy Software…Are You Sure You’re Alone?

Spy Software is designed to silently record computer activity and then archive it for later retrieval, or stealthily send everything you do on your computer back to the intruder.

In my opinion, this type of spyware does the more damage to lives WORLDWIDE than any virus or adware product ever could.

Because spy software is so easy for anyone to purchase and install, now ANYONE who wants to find out what you’re doing on your computer can see everything.

The worst part is, spy software is virtually undetectable by most adware scanners.

Want to see what I’m talking about? One of the best known companies who sell this type of spy software is www.spectorsoft.com

Most Spy Software is sold to spy on other family members, leading to divorce and all kinds of grief.

The worst cases are when used by business associates or even those who are after your credit card information or passwords to your accounts.

I’ve got a firewall you say…

Many Spy Software products can bypass even the best firewalls.

A firewall will lock up your system and require you to give your permission for any software program to operate on your system.

Spy Software companies know this, and many have figured a way to bypass most firewalls and send your personal information right over the Internet to the perpetrators.

When your firewall is triggered to ask you for your permission to send your captured information, the spy software will actually alter the message your firewall uses to ask your permission.

Your firewall will now ask you if it’s alright for “Internet Explorer” or some application you’re totally familiar with to access the Internet.

Of course you will click yes, and many times you will tell your firewall not to bother you when this program accesses the Internet in the future.

By clicking yes, you’ve just allowed the spy software to send your private information to the perpetrator(s).

Spy Software can be slipped onto your system via e-greeting cards, emails, Trojans or just simply physical access to your PC.

Spy Software Removal:

Whatever anti spyware tool you get, don’t spend your money unless you’re VERY SURE the product will do the job for you.

You wouldn’t get a virus scanner that only got some of the viruses would you?

You can use the anti spyware SpyBot for most adware related spyware and it will even catch some Spy Software products.

The absolute best product I’ve seen to detect Spy Software is SpyCop.

SpyCop does not… I repeat, DOES NOT focus on adware. Do not download SpyCop to deal with adware infections.

SpyCop is a tool that is totally dedicated to detecting Spy Software products and has the most up to date spy software database anywhere.

SpyCop will scour your system for over 500 spy software products

SpyCop has been tested and proven to work by the most ardent anti spyware experts. http://www.spycop.com/download1

Hair Loss of the Bariatric or Gastric Bypass Patient

October 31st, 2007

DON’T STRESS YOUR SCALP…. Avoid SOME Hair Loss!

You are most-likely aware that having Bariatric or Gastric Bypass surgery DOES cause you to experience “some” type of hair loss as you lose the weight so rapidly. You’ve heard the rumors, and they are TRUE to the point that you WILL LOSE some hair… but you will not be bald in the least! In all of my years attending a support group, NEVER have I seen one bald person yet! So rest assured that although you DO lose “some” hair, it won’t be all.

Let’s simplify this topic by putting it in a question/answer format:

Q: Why do we lose some hair?
A: As a pre-op person, you used to consume between 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day. But once you have the surgery, your caloric intake is drastically reduced to a mere 300-600 calories a day. This puts the body in an “emergency” mode as it thinks something is terribly wrong, and it begins to focus ONLY on supporting the vital organs that will sustain life. Hair has never been under the category of a “life-sustaining” organ; therefore, the body puts the hair on the back-burner until it is sure that the body is going to be okay enough to again send nutrients to the hair.

Q: When does hair loss begin?
A: It normally will begin anywhere from one month after surgery and last until about 6 months after surgery. Of course, this can begin during the third month or even extend beyond the sixth month. It varies from person to person.

Q: How much hair is lost?
A: Some will jokingly tell you that they could build a cat out of all the hair they lost, but that is not true. While you will notice some handfuls come out as you wash your hair in the shower, see more than normal in your comb or hairbrush, and perhaps even see some on your pillow when you wake up in the morning — this is nothing to be alarmed over. IT WILL STOP FALLING OUT once the body begins to feel that life is “normal” and it will trust that it’s okay to send nutrients to the hair again. Be patient and know that it DOES STOP in time.

There ARE some TIPS that will help you NOT experience so much hair loss, however…..

DO NOT wear a hat, scarf, head bands, tight barrettes, ponytail holders or anything similar that will pull or tug on the follicles of your hair. Pulling and pushing on the hair weakens it when it is already eager to fall out. Avoid these items for at least the first six months after surgery.

DO NOT stress the hair with hot treatments such as hairdryers, curling irons, or hot rollers. Stand in front of a fan to dry your hair in a hurry and use good hair jells to create some curl if you want. Sprays are okay too. Even hair color is okay IF you do it sparingly rather than the standard automatic every 6 weeks. Try to go 8 weeks in between hair coloring. Perms are a bit more stressful, though some have had success doing them. You’ll have to judge this for yourself as you evaluate this for yourself. You can always be confident in asking your hairdresser about it if you are not sure.

DO TRY a new hair style. As heavy people, we often relied on our hair’s BEST looks to draw attention away from our extra pounds. But as you are losing, people aren’t noticing your hair anymore… they are noticing the pounds falling off, which is a perfect time for you to consider totally changing your hair style IF it will help you manage it better and also keep more of it on your head. Long hair is a heaviness on the head, which does stress and pull at the hair follicles. So perhaps a shorter style would help your delicate hair stay ON the head. Just as your body is experiencing a “makeover”, why not consider your hairstyle as well…. Especially if it will help you KEEP more hair?

DO TRY a product called NIOXIN that you can purchase from your beauty salon. It’s a three-step process of a product that helps cancer patients keep more of their hair as it falls out. It strengthens the follicles. I personally used this product, and I fully believe it helped more of my hair stay attached than what might have happened had I not used it. I noticed a remarkable difference when I used this product. And I can tell you that others also have similar testimonials on this product.

DO TRY to remember that your hair is only falling out temporarily and it will soon STOP and STAY ON again! Some people have experienced that their hair soon becomes healthier than they’ve ever had before! Sometimes the texture even changes…. Sounds FUN, huh? It can be!

BOTTOM LINE: Have a GOOD ATTITUDE about your hair… take care of it, baby it, and you’ll find that you’ll be out of that FALLING OUT Zone shortly! Today’s hairstyles ARE more relaxed, and with the right cut, you’ll look just as glamorous as a celebrity! Don’t despair…. Just know that we’re NOT a group of baldies!!!

Fairy Tales Can Come True

October 31st, 2007

In private moments we may find ourselves reflecting upon our lives, what could have been, and our true potential. We often cast our hopes and dreams aside, and then experience feelings of disillusionment or emptiness. We feel cheated of our inalienable right of happiness

In this world of fast paced communications, it’s very easy to become sidetracked when it comes to finding our Enchanted Self. We are constantly bombarded with images from TV, radio, magazines and newspapers telling us what to wear, how we should look and smell, or what car to drive. According to these outside options, if we follow their plan then we should be happy, right? Wrong! When we place our lives in the hands of others we lose the magical, potential for happiness that exists within each of us.

How do we begin the process of looking within? What do we look for? First, we must understand that each of us has the ability to create our own happiness and joy. Second, we need to realize that the most important tool we possess is our own unique memories. Memories don’t just pop up out of nowhere; they sometimes have to be prodded or coaxed. Think of them as children playing hide and seek, hoping and waiting to be discovered. How do we coax our memories out into the open?

Experiencing the moment can trigger positive memories from your past. Learning to recognize your positive talents and strengths through memory retrieval is an important lease of the process toward discovering your Enchanted Self.

The third step is learning how to use positive memories to reinvent yourself. Recently while on vacation in Wales, Barbara met Valerie Woodall. Valerie had worked for an insurance company. She held a high position and was responsible for many employees. When her division closed, Valerie found herself out of a job. Valerie might have spent the following year searching for another job in the same field, but instead chose to make a career change. She scanned her past for events that had brought her happiness, and went back to her love of fairy tales. When she was three years old her grandmother had given her a beautiful book of fairy tales (which she still has). “I got this idea to have a fairy shop. My husband thought I was crazy, that no one would come in. Ignoring him, I found this little shop in a nice arcade and I have been swamped since we opened. Who can resist buying a magic wand or a captured fairy in a bottle for a daughter, a niece or grandchild?”

Valerie had taken the fourth step in the process of discovering her Enchanted Self. She had researched the practicality of her dream. This takes lots of time and effort. Needless to say, this paid off. Valerie is a wonderful example of someone who scanned her own past, found her latent talents and potential and then did the hard work of researching and finding a way to re-invent herself. As a result, she created a new career and a new passion for herself. Most important, she had the courage to try.

It may take a single memory or a string of memories to give you the courage to reinvent yourself. As in any worthwhile endeavor it takes practice time and effort. Remember that happiness starts within.
