3 Reasons why Content is Still King

June 20th, 2008

Back in the late nineties, the phrase ‘Content is King’ was repeated and repeated and repeated by site owners and marketers alike. The belief was that the more content you had, the greater the number of visitors you would attract. Of course, the content had to be well written, relevant and easy to find. Many sites built very successful businesses as a result.

And then something happened.

Big money from venture capitalists burst onto the scene. Suddenly nobody was talking about content. (Where’s the big investment return on ‘content’?) Instead the attention went to businesses that came up with some kind of unique ‘technology solution’.

Then the dotcom bubble burst.

And here we are.

Is content still important? I think so. People don’t talk about it as earnestly as they once did, but I think that original thinking was very sound.

Here are three reasons why you should be creating more content on your site:

1. Content increases conversion rates by keeping prospects on your site.

When prospective customers arrive at your site, they like to ‘dig deep’. They look for all the information they can find before they feel confident enough to commit to that purchase. Whether you are selling banking, subscriptions, noodles or digitals cameras, people want to know what they are buying.

If you don’t give them all the information they need, they’ll find someone else who does. Perhaps they’ll try epinions.com, consumerguide.com or mouthshut.com. Or maybe they’ll just do a search on Google.

The point is, if they can’t find the information they want on your site, they’ll try somewhere else. And as soon as they leave your site, the chances of their returning is fairly slim.

And that’s very bad news for your conversion rates.

2. Content differentiates you from your competitors

What differentiates your noodle site from every other noodle site? Most businesses have a number of direct competitors and all too often there is very little to truly differentiate your products or services from theirs. You may have some marginal distinctions, new offers or price deals. But at the end of the day, a noodle is a noodle.

So how do you differentiate your site? You do it with content. You make your site an absolute magnet for anyone who is serious about cooking pasta. You provide the best recipes, you deliver the best advice, you seek out the most interesting and useful facts about noodles.

When you do that, your products may not be that different from anyone else’s, but your site is. It has become different because it becomes known for being the number one resource for cooking great pasta.

3. Content is great for search engines and inbound links

Here’s something we already know. The search engines love content, especially when it is substantial, updated and relevant.

So do your homework and make sure your content pages have SEO-friendly titles, headlines and body text.

In addition to being attractive to search engines, great content also attracts inbound links. The better the information, the more the number of sites that will want to link to you.

In conclusion…

Creating great content for your site, and newsletters, is still a very smart thing to do. It’s good for your customers, good for your conversion rates, perfect for search engines and does a great job of separating your site from your competition.

Offshore Banking Services

June 18th, 2008

Offshore banking simply means to have your bank accounts in a bank outside your own country. It is therefore easy to find offshore banks that offer exactly the same services as you would expect from a bank in your own city.

All offshore banks will of course let you deposit and withdraw money. Offshore banks normally issue credit cards to help you do so. A credit card from an offshore bank works just like any other credit card and it can often be used in ATMs around the world.

In addition, an offshore bank would typically offer the following services to its private customers:

  • Money transmissions
  • Loans
  • Currency Exchange
  • Investment Management
  • Fund Management

Fund and investment management means that the bank is managing securities (stocks, bonds, etc.) for the bank customers. This is also known as portfolio management or money management.

Depending on the size of the bank, it might offer additional services. It is normal for offshore banks to charge money for use of their services. The price of using the services varies a lot from one bank to the other.

Most of the services are used through the Internet since offshore banks are situated far from their customers. An offshore bank will typically have an advanced and very secure website where you can handle your accounts, access services and communicate with the bank.

The services mentioned here applies for private customers in an offshore bank. The banks will typically have a set of extra services for company customers.

Business Presentations - Use “Power Pitching” - Get the Personal Edge

June 16th, 2008

Whenever and whatever you’re pitching, dozens of factors
will figure in the final decision of your prospects. All else
being equal, you have the edge if you can establish a
personal connection. Connect emotionally and intellectually,
so they like and trust you more than your competitors. How
can you get your prospects to like you? Try these tips.

* Focus and be sincere. If you appear nervous or unsure,
you may seem devious or incompetent. If your sales
presentation does not respond to their concerns and you
just grind on with a prepared pitch, they will decide you don’t
care about them and their problems. Look people right in
the eyes and convince them that you stand 100% behind the
ideas, products, or services that you want to sell them. Pick
up on their concerns, and address them.

* “Divide and conquer.” If you’re doing a sales presentation,
shake hands with everyone as they enter the room. Connect
with them so you see them as individuals, and you become
more memorable to them too. (People are usually more shy
of groups of strangers than in one-on-one contacts.)

* Use technology to enhance your sales presentation, not
drown it. PowerPoint can keep you on track, but it can’t
establish trust.

* Keep it simple and memorable! When your prospects
have a debriefing afterwards, you want them to remember
what you said more than anything your competitors pitched
to them. Break your talking points into snappy sound bites
that are easy to write down and remember. Make them
interesting and repeatable.

* Steer clear of technical language and jargon. Rehearse
your presentation in advance with your spouse or an
intelligent 12-year-old across the dinner table. If there’s
anything they don’t understand, it’s too complicated.

* Tell great stories. People are trained to resist a sales
pitch, but no one can resist a good story. Let’s say you’re
trying to get money to fund your software company. Tell a
story about how the prospective investor’s life will change
when you bring the product to market: “Imagine that a year
from now you’ll come to work and use this software to do in
5 minutes what now takes you 45 minutes. I don’t know
what that would do to your life, but in all our test markets or
pilot programs, people tell us…” Then add more stories.

Take a lesson from Hollywood. Give your stories interesting
characters and dialogue, plus a dramatic lesson that your
prospects can relate to. Don’t say, “Certain companies have
used our software.” Don’t even say, “IBM has used our
software.” Instead, say, “Joe Smith at IBM said to me, ‘If we
don’t increase sales turnover by 20%, we want make our
projections’. We guaranteed them they could if they used our
software. Six months later, Joe called and said, ‘You guys
saved us.’”

If you are pitching a product that hasn’t been built yet, build a
story about what it will be like for someone using it.

Everything else being equal, you’re way ahead of any and all
your competition when your prospects relate to you, like you,
and trust you.

Reflections of the Past Year - Goal Setting Strategies for a New Year

June 14th, 2008

I don’t know about you but for me it seems that as I get older the years seem to go by faster. You know that cliché “time flies when you’re having fun”. Well I don’t know if that’s what happening but here it is again, another year gone by.

The end of the year brings about a lot of introspection about what you have accomplished or not accomplished for the year. As I reflect on the year, I feel a mixture of feelings. Some things I’m not too happy about while other things I feel pretty good about. All in all I know that I am blessed especially when I thing about the loved ones and others that were lost to death during the year.

This year has brought about heartbreaking devastation from the hurricanes, a tsunami, brush fires, earthquakes, mudslides, floods, tornadoes, and loss of jobs that have affected people not only living in other countries but people living right here in the United States. As I reflect, it also brings to mind how much we take for granted, but in reality life is so short. The time we have here on earth is so precious and valuable that we should not ever complain or take for granted what could be taken away in an instant. That’s why I have decided to set some simple goals for myself for the upcoming year to optimize my time.

Here are some strategies that you may find helpful in setting goals for your life:

  • A good place to start is reflecting on the past year and identifying your successes and identifying things that didn’t go so well for you.

  • Think about areas of your life that you want to improve in. You might want to think about your relationships, finances, health, career, spirituality and narrow down and focus on certain areas by selecting two to three that are most important to you at this time.

  • Set up small steps to accomplish your goals followed by action steps. For example, a goal could be wanting to lose 10 pounds within the next three months. Action steps to make this goal a reality may include visiting the gym two - three times a week and eating healthier meals that include more vegetables and less junk foods.

  • Make your goals measurable, achievable, and set a time frame. Set them according to what you can do not to what you think you should do or what others have done.

  • Write your goals down and visualize yourself accomplishing them. In fact you should visualize yourself achieving your goals throughout the time you are working on them. This positive energy will help in your success. Believing that you can achieve the goal is a must. Writing your goals down also makes them seem more real.

  • Share your goals with someone that is important to you. If you think that someone will be supportive and positive in your accomplishments, by all means share your goals with that person.

  • Document your progress. Writing down or placing a star on the calendar when you accomplish something related to a goal gives you a record of your accomplishment and helps validate while giving your self-esteem a boost.

  • Be prepared to evaluate your goals on a monthly or every two month basis. This allows you to see where you are and if you need make some adjustments in your action steps. If you find that you are not being as successful as you think you should, take a look at what is hindering progress and eliminate the obstacle.

  • The best part is rewarding yourself. Rewarding yourself is exciting and helps to motivate. Rewarding yourself can be an inexpensive event or thing such as treating yourself to a long hot bath or a movie that you have been wanting to see.

  • Lastly don’t be afraid to change your goals if you need to. Sometimes circumstances change that could affect your plan and you will need to make adjustments. It’s okay, don’t get stuck. Change what needs to be changed and move on.

My hope is that you have found these strategies useful in starting this upcoming New Year off with a plan, a focus and a positive outlook toward the future. Good Luck!

  • Pressure Washing Congress

    June 14th, 2008

You can talk to any person in America and they will tell you that the United States Congress needs to be cleaned up. Not a single person I have talk to has disagreed with that statement and I have traveled to every single city in the United States all over 10,000 people in population in the last four years. I have not talked to one single person; rich or poor, black or white, atheist or Christian who denies that we need to clean up Congress.

Well, having run a pressure washing business and having learned a little bit about cleaning things up it seems to me that the answer is simple we must pressure wash all the congressman and all the congresswomen and all of their facilities and offices. We must do this with high-pressure hot water at no less than 200 degrees Fahrenheit.

The sooner we pressure wash Congress the better off the American people will be and the sooner we can get back to a government, which is for the people and by the people and abides by the Constitution of United States of America. Now some people might find this funny and rather hilarious.

But I am completely serious and we must pressure wash Congress as soon as possible to protect the American people from the government that is getting so large it almost doesn’t need the people anymore. Indeed this is a scary thought.

A government, which is owned by the people and for the people and which no longer needs the people. If we do not pressure wash Congress who is to say they will not soon pressure watch us, as we are no longer needed? Consider all this in 2006.

This season Anthony Loeff the European alpinist is reporting the scales for Everest and Mont Blanc in France

    June 11th, 2008

Man from Nepal, 77, oldest mountaineer to scale Mount Everest. This season Anthony Loeff the French mountaineer is reporting the scales for Everest after reaching the top of earlier this year.

The Chinese were flying their airplanes over Chomolungma and had Chinese officials in Kathmandu. Min Bahadur Sherchan last attempt resulted in the rescue of Lincoln Hall, an Australian climber who was left by his team in the “death zone.”

“Mt Everest this year became a political pawn,” he said with some frustration.

Bahadur Sherchan returned this week from Nepal after successfully climbing to the summit of Chomolungma or Mount Everest. As he planned for the climb, Sherchan told reporters he wanted to inspire fellow senior citizens. He also said many Nepalese have established records on the Mount Everest, so it was only fitting that the record for the oldest climber to reach the summit should also belong to a Nepali. His first found him within 171 metres of the peak when his team stopped to help a fellow mountaineer who was left for dead. Three years later, Andrew Brash, a University of Calgary alumni, returned to Mt Everest to finish what he had started.

Indeed, he was all too aware of the potential dangers Everest could bring. Certain parts of the climb are more dangerous than others and it is important for climbers to remain focused The 76-year-old man from Nepal is now the oldest person to have reached the top of Chomolungma. Hall was frostbitten and severely disoriented due to altitude sickness. Andrew Brash returned a hero to Calgarians. Sherchan just 24 days away from his 77th birthday beat the age record set last year by 71-year-old Japanese teacher Katsusuke Yanagisawa.

With the Chinese preparing for the impending summer Olympic Games, Bahadur Sherchan noted that the government’s actions hardly reflected the Olympic spirit. More than 3099 people have climbed to the summit since it was first conquered in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary, who died in January, and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay.

Now that Min Bahadur Sherchan has successfully scaled the tallest mountain in the world, he is once again ready to focus on his family. “The Chinese weren’t allowing anybody on the Mount Everest. They ended up commandeering it for themselves, even though Chomolungma or Mount Everest is shared by two countries. They basically coerced the Nepali government to not allow any climbers past camp two on the Nepali side. Min Bahadur Sherchan and four climbing guides reached the 29,035-foot (8,850-meters) summit of the world’s highest mountain early Sunday, said Ramesh Chretri, an official with Nepal’s ministry of tourism.

Therefore, the decision to actualize a long-time personal goal left Andrew Brash with some internal uncertainties, he cited the political actions of China and Nepal as providing the greatest adversity he faced on his journey. They flexed their muscles this year all the in name of the Olympic spirit, but it was hardly spirited at all.”

    Home Improvement

    June 10th, 2008

I am sure that most of us always look for some home improvements. In fact this idea oftentimes comes every day. However, most of us seldom focus their home improvements outside the home but rather inside, and the usual spot for home improvement by most people is the bathroom. For some reasons, the home improvement involved in the bathroom is really important since we spend much time in that place. So as such, the bathroom deserves to be the focus of some sorts of home improvements.

So in this article, I would mainly deal in some tips and techniques for home improvement with the particular focus in the bathroom.

For those who want to engage in their own home improvements particularly in the bathroom, it is important to consider that the windows and the mirrors are clean. As one element for home improvement, one important technique that most of the home improvement conscious applied is the blending of a 1/3 cup of white, clear vinegar and 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol for spraying the bathroom windows and mirrors to achieve a functional and good look.

In the place for tubs and shower stalls, as part of home improvement, you must apply a car wax to the shower walls and glass doors but not to the floor to seal the pours and to make the home improvement in the bathroom easier and for the water spots to keep away. This method for home improvement must be applied twice yearly. Also for home improvement with a particular focus on the bathroom, it is necessary to note that the showers must be clean once a week with an orange citrus-based cleaner. Simply spray the cleaner to the showers to dissolve all the dirt.

For the toilets, since you are engaging in some home improvements, you make sure that you pour one or two cups of white vinegar into the toilet once a month to eliminate the problem of having nasty rings around the toilet area. And as part of home improvement, you should also clean the toilet bowl to eliminate the rings by brushing all the affected areas with the use of the brush or pumice stone and of course with the solvent.

Furthermore, in home improvement with a particular focus on the bathroom, the sink is another important area to clean. So as a home improvement, you should pour one cup of baking soda followed by one cup of white vinegar down the drain and then flush with warm water after an hour to fizzle the dirt. This method of home improvement is effective for the tub; shower and kitchen sink as well.

Also, the faucet is another critical area for cleaning and as part of home improvement. As such it is important that the faucets are cleaned and this can be done with the use of the paper towel with white vinegar. In this area for home improvement you must make sure that after pouring the solvent, scrub the area by using a stiff bristled nylon toothbrush.

And lastly, since you are into some home improvements, you should also make sure that the mildew is cleaned by applying the peroxide and water on your bathroom ceiling to remove the dirt.
